Downtown Mount Dora turns Scottish every February, with pipe bands, caber tossing and Highland dancing filling Donnelly Park and Elizabeth Evans Park. Friday opens with a ceilidh, then the main days run Saturday and Sunday from 10am, when the athletics field, the heritage village and the clan society tents all fill at once. Competitors throw the caber, hammer and stone, dancers work through their sets, and the massed pipes and drums pull the crowd to the tartan parade. Know before you go: admission is ticketed per day, so a full weekend needs two tickets, and buying online ahead of the festival costs less than paying at the gate. Active and non-active military get in free with valid ID. Parking is free on city streets and in city lots, with a complimentary shuttle running from First Baptist Church. Bring chairs or a blanket, expect coolers to be checked, and know it runs rain or shine. Service dogs are welcome and drones are not.
