A ceilidh on Friday opens Mount Dora's February weekend of pipe bands and caber tossing, held downtown in Donnelly Park and Elizabeth Evans Park. Saturday and Sunday run from 10am, rain or shine, and the athletics field gets busy at the same time as the heritage village and the clan society tents. Competitors toss the caber and throw the hammer and stone while Highland dancers go through their sets. The massed pipes and drums draw the crowd to the tartan parade. Tickets are sold per day, so a full weekend needs two, and buying online ahead costs less than paying at the gate. Active and non-active military get in free with valid ID. Parking is free on city streets and in city lots, with a complimentary shuttle from First Baptist Church. Bring chairs or a blanket, and expect coolers to be checked. Service dogs are welcome; drones aren't.
