Florida Storytelling Festival
100 N Alexander St, Mount Dora, FL 32757
About this happenin
White tents go up on the lawn of the Lakeside Inn for four days in January, and people come from across Florida to Mount Dora to listen. More than forty editions in, the Florida Storytelling Association's festival still comes down to a teller at a microphone and a room that leans in. Featured tellers headline the evening concerts at the Mount Dora Music Hall, but the weekend's character lives in the margins: the workshops, the Tall Tales Liars Contest, the ghost story swap, the open swaps where a name drawn at random buys you five minutes, and the Youthful Voices concert where grade schoolers take the same stage. It runs Thursday to Sunday across two venues, the Lakeside Inn on North Alexander Street and the Music Hall on North Baker Street, and sessions are livestreamed as well as held in person. A full festival pass is $185, or $140 for members. The listeners pass, $60, covers everything but the workshops. Single workshops are $35, and individual concerts run $10 to $20.
More in January: 13 other Orlando events.
