For four days each January the lawn of the Lakeside Inn fills with white tents and people come from across Florida to Mount Dora to listen. The Florida Storytelling Association has run this festival for more than forty editions, and it still rests on one thing: a teller, a microphone, and a room that leans in. Featured tellers headline the evening concerts at the Mount Dora Music Hall, but the weekend's character lives in the margins, in the workshops, the Tall Tales Liars Contest, the ghost story swap, the open swaps where a name drawn at random buys you five minutes, and the Youthful Voices concert where grade schoolers take the same stage. Know before you go: it runs Thursday to Sunday across two venues, the Lakeside Inn on North Alexander Street and the Music Hall on North Baker Street. A full festival pass is $185, $140 for members. A listeners pass covering everything but the workshops is $60, single workshops are $35, and individual concerts run $10 to $20. Sessions are livestreamed as well as held in person.
