Love Your Shorts fills Sanford's 1923 Ritz Theater with short films from around the world every February, screened in themed blocks and voted on by the audience. Nothing runs longer than 30 minutes. Blocks are sorted by genre, among them comedy, drama, animation, documentary, sci-fi and horror, international, Florida Flavor for films shot in the state, and E for Everyone, the family-friendly one. Filmmakers turn up for Q&A between screenings, and the top winners take home a Monroe, a metal sculpture named for nearby Lake Monroe. Know before you go: tickets are sold by the block, with a weekend pass covering everything, and popular blocks sell out, so buy ahead. The box office sits in front of the theater and typically opens 30 minutes before a block. The Ritz has no lot of its own, so plan on street parking and public lots around downtown Sanford and arrive early. Most of the program leans adult, so check block descriptions before bringing children. Wheelchair seating is available.
