Kissimmee throws itself a birthday party every March, and Kowtown Festival is it: free live music on the Festival Lawn at Lakefront Park, food trucks, vendor booths and a cake cut on stage under confetti, then handed out free. The nickname is earned. Kissimmee was a cattle-shipping town long before the theme parks came, so the festival brings out cowboy hats and a longhorn skull logo, and the lineup beside Lake Tohopekaliga is mostly country. The city has marked the anniversary of its 1883 incorporation this way for years, for a mostly hometown crowd. Free downtown parking includes the Toho Square garage at 92 Pleasant Street, one block from the park; the Kissimmee Intermodal garage; the Osceola County Courthouse garage; and on-street spaces along Lakeview Drive. It starts at noon on a Saturday, and getting in is free. The KUA Kids Power Zone keeps younger children busy. Outside coolers aren't allowed, and neither are tents or umbrellas.
