About this happenin
Eustis has thrown a party for George Washington's birthday every February since 1902, which makes GeorgeFest the longest continuously running celebration of its kind in the country. It began as a thank-you to winter visitors at the old Ocklawaha House hotel and now fills eight days of historic downtown and lakefront Ferran Park: a carnival midway, national touring acts at the 1926 Alice McClelland Memorial Bandshell, craft and food vendors, fireworks, pageants, a bass tournament on the Harris Chain of Lakes, the Running of the Georges race, a dog jog, and a grand parade on the closing Saturday morning. Know before you go: admission is free, and the run stretches Saturday to Saturday, with most of the live music and carnival action in the evenings. Ride wristbands are sold separately through the Lake Eustis Area Chamber of Commerce, which also manages the parade. Streets along the parade route close, so park a few blocks back and walk in.
