Illuminated floats roll through Historic Downtown Kissimmee after dark each December at the Festival of Lights, a free nighttime parade along Broadway. The route runs along Broadway, Sproule Street, Church Street and Stewart Avenue, and the entries lean local: utility bucket trucks buried in lights, dance troupes in tinsel and toy-soldier red, kids pedaling bikes wrapped in bulbs. Families stake out the curb with folding chairs well before the first float appears. Know before you go: admission is free. The holiday festival at Kissimmee City Hall starts at 4 pm with the KUA Kids Power Zone and a letters-to-Santa station, then the parade steps off at 7:30 pm in Historic Downtown. Downtown road closures begin at 2 pm, so give yourself time to park. Free parking is available at the Kissimmee Civic Center, the Toho Square garage and the County Courthouse garage. Food vendors set up for the evening, and the event is aimed squarely at kids and families.
