About this happenin

Hollerbach's taps its first Oktoberfest keg at noon on the same day Munich taps its own, a celebrity guest shouting O'zapft is over downtown Sanford. The Willow Tree Cafe has been the region's German anchor for decades, and the tapping opens the Oktoberfest season across the restaurant, the beer hall under its Kyllburg mural, and the Erdinger-shaded biergarten out back. Lederhosen, Dirndls and Trachten are the point rather than a costume, and Hollerbach's Outfitters rents Trachten if you do not own any. Know before you go: the tapping starts at noon, and the restaurant serves until 10 pm on Saturdays. Nick und Eckhard play Volksmusik from 1 to 4 and again from 6 to 9. Priority seating is worth arranging by phone, and it needs a minimum of one hour's notice. Downtown Sanford has free parking and a free trolley, so leave the car and walk First Street. This runs inside a working restaurant, not a gated beer tent.
