About this happenin

Each spring, downtown Orlando fills with bomba drums, cabezudo puppets and Puerto Rican flags as the parade rolls from Robinson Street past Lake Eola Park. The Florida Puerto Rican Parade and Festival is Central Florida's largest gathering of a diaspora that has reshaped the region, and it draws families from as far as New York and Chicago. The festival opens right behind the parade, with more than 100 exhibitors selling artisan work, island products and food, plus a full day of live music on stage. Each edition is dedicated to a different municipality in Puerto Rico and carries its own theme. Know before you go: the parade and festival are free to attend. The parade has stepped off at 11 a.m. from the corner of East Robinson Street and North Rosalind Avenue, with the festival following at noon and running into the night. Expect closures on parts of Magnolia Avenue, Robinson Street and Orange Avenue, plus limited parking nearby, so arrive early. Organizers run it as a family event, with a children's area among the festival activities.
