About this happenin
Enzian, the nonprofit arthouse cinema in Maitland where you watch from a chair at a table and dinner arrives mid-film, hands its whole operation over to the Florida Film Festival for ten days every April. More than 160 features, documentaries, shorts and midnight oddities screen across the run, most with the director in the room afterward, and the awards carry real weight: this is one of a handful of American festivals whose short-film winners qualify for Academy Award consideration in all three short categories, animated, live action and documentary short subject. Know before you go: screenings split between Enzian in Maitland and Regal Winter Park, so check the venue printed on your ticket before you drive. Seating at both is general admission with no reservations, and the festival asks ticketholders to arrive at least 30 minutes before showtime. When a screening sells out, empty seats go to the standby line at showtime. Both venues have on-site parking, and after 5pm Enzian opens overflow parking at Park Maitland School and Peach Valley.
