About this happenin

Cracker Christmas turns Fort Christmas Historical Park over to Florida pioneer life for a weekend, with blacksmiths, broom makers, spinners and rope makers working under the live oaks. The 1837 fort replica and the restored Cracker houses form the backdrop for a craft fair of handmade goods, with local clubs and food vendors cooking alongside them. It started in the late 1970s as a small community gathering and is now the Fort Christmas Historical Society's largest event of the year, out in far east Orange County where the town of Christmas actually is. Know before you go: admission is free, and the event runs 10am to 4pm on both days. The historic buildings are open and staffed by demonstrators, so children can watch quilting, lace making and cane grinding at close range. No pets are allowed in the park apart from service animals. Cash is handy for the food and craft booths, and paths are grass and sand, so wear shoes you do not mind dusting off.
