Blacksmiths, broom makers, spinners and rope makers work under the live oaks at Fort Christmas Historical Park for one weekend of Florida pioneer life. The park is out in far east Orange County, where the town of Christmas actually is. The 1837 fort replica and the restored Cracker houses stand behind a craft fair of handmade goods, and local clubs and food vendors cook alongside. Cracker Christmas began in the late 1970s as a small community gathering and is now the Fort Christmas Historical Society's largest event of the year. It's free both days, 10am to 4pm. The historic buildings are open and staffed by demonstrators, and children can watch cane grinding or needlework like quilting and lace making at close range. The park bans pets other than service animals, and its paths are grass and sand, so wear shoes you don't mind dusting off. Cash is handy at the food and craft booths.
