Clermont Caribbean Jerk Festival
131 Chestnut St, Clermont, FL 34711
About this happenin
The jerk chicken cook-off at Clermont's Caribbean Jerk Festival is decided by the crowd, in a people's choice vote that evening. A curry cook-off runs the same day, and vendors line Clermont Waterfront Park cooking island food. The Caribbean American Association of Lake County runs the one-day festival with the City of Clermont each June, during Caribbean-American Heritage Month. The association's own Lake Steel Orchestra is one of the live acts playing through the day, and in the afternoon a flag parade carries the colors of the Caribbean nations through the park. Kids get their own zone with face painting and bounce houses. The park's splash pad is the reason to pack a towel and a change of clothes. Recent editions have run noon to 9 p.m. on a Saturday, and admission is free. According to the organizer's flyer, parking costs nothing. A VIP package is sold separately; it was last priced at $50 and covered a shaded stage-side spot, rum punch, appetizers and a chicken or fish meal.
