Kilted heavy athletes throw the caber and the hammer, and massed pipe bands take the field together. The Central Florida Scottish Highland Games has come back to Central Winds Park in Winter Springs every January for more than four decades, with clan tents ranged around the grounds. Over two days the Scottish-American Society of Central Florida adds Highland and Scottish country dancing, border collie demonstrations, kids games, two music stages, a whisky tasting, and a shortbread and scones competition. Free shuttle buses run from satellite parking at Winter Springs Elementary School and The Foundry Church. The grounds open Saturday from 8am to 9pm and Sunday from 8:45am to 5pm, rain or shine, with no ticket refunds. Advance tickets are discounted online through December 31 (children five and under are free). The border collies in the demonstrations are the only dogs allowed besides trained service dogs, and drones are banned.
