About this happenin
Nine Asian communities share one free day in mid-May at Ocoee's Lakeshore Center and Bill Breeze Park: China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. The Asian American Heritage Council of Central Florida runs the Asian Cultural Festival during Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, and the festival raises money for the council's Asian American Student Achiever Award, a scholarship for local students. Lion dances and taiko drumming are part of the day. On the indoor stage at the Lakeshore Center, K-pop shares the bill with fan dances and kung fu demonstrations, while food and craft vendors set up on the park lawns outside. The start time moves: some years it opens at 11 a.m., others at 3 p.m.
More in May: 7 other Orlando events.
