UVSA Tet Festival
15744 Goldenwest St, Huntington Beach, CA 92647
About this happenin
A bamboo pole, Cây Nêu, goes up on the first evening of UVSA Tết Festival with a good luck message on a red scroll, the way it is raised in Vietnam to mark the start of Tết. An ancestral altar procession in the costumes of a royal court then opens the festival officially. It runs at Golden West College in Huntington Beach over a three-day weekend around Vietnamese Lunar New Year. Student volunteers with the Union of Vietnamese Student Associations of Southern California, a nonprofit, have run it since 1982, and UVSA describes it as the nation's largest Vietnamese Lunar New Year festival. General admission is $10 at the gate, and infants 2 and under get in free with a paying adult. Làng Việt Nam is a replica of a traditional village, with exhibits and models of Vietnamese architecture. Food vendors fill the grounds, and the biggest crowds at the contest stage come for the pho eating contest.
More in February: 6 other Los Angeles events.
