About this happenin

Houghton Park in North Long Beach gives a Saturday afternoon in early August to the Uptown Jazz Festival. The City of Long Beach and the Ninth District council office put it on, from 2 to 7 p.m., and it has been running for more than a decade. The bill mixes jazz with funk, soul and Latin rhythms. A headliner tops it, and a DJ hosts between sets. Food and drinks are for sale. Children get their own Kids Zone, and vendor and community resource booths line the park and the city bills it as a family event.

More in August: 6 other Los Angeles events.
