About this happenin
Hart Hall turns over to cowboy poetry and storytelling for two days each April, when the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival sets up in William S. Hart Park in Old Town Newhall. Two outdoor stages carry Western swing and bluegrass. The living history camps have blacksmiths at work and a chuck wagon, and Sutlers Row sells Western goods and handcrafted pieces. The Horseshoe Honky Tonk has line dance lessons in the afternoons. The Barnyard is home to rescued farm animals, and Pioneer Corner has candle making and gold panning. The games run to lassoing, sharpshooting, axe throwing and a mechanical bull. General admission is free. VIP passes and the Saturday night line dance are ticketed, and a free shuttle runs from a lot at 13th Street and Railroad Avenue.
More in April: 8 other Los Angeles events.
