Temple City Camellia Festival
9701 Las Tunas Drive, Temple City, CA 91780
About this happenin
The Temple City Camellia Festival sends floats dressed in real camellia blooms and petals down Las Tunas Drive on the Saturday of the last full weekend in February. Scout packs and other youth groups build them, and every entry has to include young people. Judges score how well each one uses the flower the town took as its own in 1944, when the festival began. The parade has started at 10 a.m. in recent years, and Las Tunas closes to cars early that morning. Afterward every float is parked in the City Hall lot, and most stay on show until Sunday afternoon. The festival runs Friday through Sunday around Temple City Park, where the carnival shares the grounds with live music, food booths, bingo and a beer garden. Royal court members are first graders from the Temple City area, picked at a Play Day contest that mixes games and a craft with a turn at public speaking.
More in February: 6 other Los Angeles events.
