Pasadena Doo Dah Parade
Old Pasadena, Pasadena, CA 91101
About this happenin
Peter Apanel and his friends at Chromo's Bar and Grill started this parade in 1978 by asking what the opposite of the Rose Parade would look like. Their answer still holds. There is no theme and nobody judges it. Anyone can march. Bands and art cars enter free. With no marching order, entries pick their own place in line, so the satire comes down the street in whatever order it lands. A Doo Dah queen is chosen each year at tryouts in Old Pasadena. Light Bringer Project, a Pasadena nonprofit, has run the parade since 1995. Watching costs nothing, and it goes ahead rain or shine. The organiser's own name for it is the Occasional Pasadena Doo Dah Parade, which is fair: some years it hasn't happened.
