Sierra Madre Wistaria Festival
Baldwin Ave & Sierra Madre Blvd, Sierra Madre, CA 91024
About this happenin
Sierra Madre's Wistaria Festival is the one day each spring the public can see the Guinness-listed vine that covers more than an acre of private land. Seeing it takes a shuttle ticket, sold apart from the free festival. Buy ahead, because walk-up tickets can run out. The vine grounds are uneven and unpaved, and neither the viewing nor the shuttle is ADA accessible. Downtown, more than 100 crafters and food vendors fill the streets along Baldwin Avenue and Sierra Madre Boulevard, and a classic car show is part of the day, which runs 9 to 5. The date follows the bloom and has landed anywhere from mid-March to mid-April. The vine began in 1894 as a one-gallon can that cost 75 cents, and its weight later collapsed the first house it grew on.
