Rose Parade
Orange Grove Blvd & Colorado Blvd, Pasadena, CA 91105
About this happenin
The Tournament of Roses sends its floats down Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena at 8 a.m. on New Year's Day, every one covered in flowers and other natural materials, with marching bands and horse units in between. When January 1 falls on a Sunday, the parade moves to Monday the 2nd. It goes back to 1890, when Valley Hunt Club members decorated carriages with flowers to show off a California winter. The 5 1/2-mile route starts at Orange Grove Boulevard and Green Street, heads north, then turns east onto Colorado, where most people watch. You can camp at the curb from noon the day before, and the route closes to cars at 10 p.m. on December 31. Grandstand seats are sold in advance. The Metro A Line stops at Del Mar and Memorial Park, each two blocks from the route. For a closer look, the floats stay parked for a couple of days afterward at Floatfest, near Sierra Madre and Washington boulevards.
