About this happenin
Streamer cannons open the gates at 10 am every Saturday and Sunday from April into May, when the Original Renaissance Pleasure Faire is open at the Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area in Irwindale. It began in 1963 in Agoura, near Malibu, as living history for school children and their families, and it moved a few times before settling here. Admission covers a dozen performance areas, full-contact jousts, the parade and the craft demonstrations, where a glassblower makes a new piece in front of you and blacksmiths and weavers make things from scratch. Costumes are welcome, and so are costume weapons if they are sheathed and peace-tied. The park charges every car its own entry fee at the gate and keeps it, so the faire has no say over it. Rideshare drop-offs skip that fee, and the faire suggests taking Metro to Irwindale Station and a rideshare from there.
More in April: 8 other Los Angeles events.
