Echo Park Lake holds a lotus bed the festival's organizers call the nation's largest, and every July the Lotus Festival sets up on its shore while the flowers bloom. Co-ed teams of eight race dragon boats across the lake. Two stages carry music and dance, and each year's program features a different Asian or Pacific Islander host country. At dusk the Lights of Dreams floats 3D-printed lotus flowers and paper lanterns on the water, and that part is ticketed. General admission is free. Street parking around the lake is limited, and shuttles carry people in from nearby lots. It has been held since 1972, usually on the second weekend of July.
