About this happenin
CicLAvia closes miles of Los Angeles County streets to cars, one Sunday at a time, and hands them to anyone on foot or on wheels. The route changes with each event. Past ones have run through Downtown, Hollywood, Wilmington, South LA and Pasadena, and the nonprofit counts more than 1.8 million people on over 385 miles of open streets since the first one, on October 10, 2010. The idea came from Bogotá's weekly Ciclovía. It is free, and it is not a race. There is no start or finish line, so you join wherever the route crosses your neighborhood and head either way. Each hub has free basic bike repair, bike parking, water refills and restrooms. Only people-powered vehicles are allowed, with exceptions for people with mobility limitations, and California law requires a helmet for anyone under 18.
