Festival of Philippine Arts and Culture (FPAC)
807 W Paseo Del Mar, San Pedro, CA 90731
About this happenin
FPAC first ran on Mother's Day 1992 at Los Angeles City College, and 3,000 people came out in the aftermath of the L.A. riots the week before. The idea for the Festival of Philippine Arts and Culture came out of the city Cultural Affairs Department's festivals program in 1990, and about 100 artists and community leaders organized that first one. Today the nonprofit FilAm Arts runs it as a one-day Filipino and Filipino American festival, in recent years on the second Saturday of September at Point Fermin Park in San Pedro. It has moved before, from Cabrillo Beach to Point Fermin in 2001 and to Echo Park in 2017, so check where it lands each year. Admission is free, with online registration. Music and dance performances go on all day, and food vendors sell sisig, ube sweets, inasal and halo-halo. Point Fermin is 37 acres of shaded lawns and gardens on a bluff, looking down the coast toward Santa Catalina Island.
More in September: 9 other Los Angeles events.
