Nisei Week Japanese Festival
244 S San Pedro St, Los Angeles, CA 90012
Little Tokyo is 17 minutes on foot from the Omni at California Plaza, so a room in one of the downtown LA hotels covers the nine days without a car.
About this happenin
For nine days every August, Little Tokyo holds Nisei Week, the Japanese and Japanese American festival produced by the nonprofit Nisei Week Foundation. Toyo Miyatake Studio has photographed every one since 1934. The Grand Parade carries dancers and floats from Central Avenue west on 2nd Street, north on San Pedro and east on 1st. The Plaza Festival at the JACCC is free, with taiko, dance, festival food and craft vendors. The festival closes with ondo, street dancing on 1st Street that the public is invited to join. The Queen and Court are crowned at a separate ticketed coronation at a downtown theater.
