About this happenin
Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, the day enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, were told they were free. In Leimert Park Village in South Los Angeles, the Leimert Park Village Merchants Association celebrates it as a Black Family Reunion. It is a daytime event on June 19, running from late morning into the evening. Past programs have had a women's drum circle, live music, poetry, line dancing, a DJ, an art exhibition and a children's village. Vendors and sponsors sign up through the association's site. That site also posts a live stream link for anyone who cannot get there in person.
More in June: 10 other Los Angeles events.
