About this happenin
Every June the Los Angeles Conservancy puts classic films back on the screens of the old movie palaces on Broadway in downtown Los Angeles. Last Remaining Seats started in 1987, when those theatres were overlooked and underused, and it now runs on three Saturdays. Each Saturday belongs to one house, with a matinee and an evening film, and the house changes from week to week. Recent seasons have played the Orpheum, the Los Angeles Theatre, the Palace and the Million Dollar, with behind-the-scenes tours of the building before the screenings. A volunteer committee votes on the films, and the same volunteers run the photo stations and the scavenger hunts that take guests through the corners of the theatre. Seating is general. Conservancy members have their own line and go in first, and doors open an hour before the film. Since 2025 a Halloween edition, Last...Remains, has brought the series back for one Saturday in October at the Million Dollar.
