Huntington Beach Fourth of July Parade and Fireworks
Pacific Coast Hwy & Main St, Huntington Beach, CA 92648
About this happenin
Huntington Beach has thrown a Fourth of July party since 1904, when 50,000 people turned out for the arrival of the first electric passenger train linking the town with Long Beach and Los Angeles. More than 500,000 come now, and the organisers bill it as the largest Independence Day celebration west of the Mississippi. The parade starts at 10 a.m. on July 4 and covers 2.5 miles, along Pacific Coast Highway past the pier and onto Main Street. Classic cars and local businesses fill out the line, along with the Huntington Beach High School cheerleaders and the mayor. Fireworks Over the Ocean start at 9 p.m. Anyone can watch from the sand, and a limited number of paid reserved seats sit on the pier itself. An Independence Day Festival with carnival rides and a home decorating contest run around the holiday, and donations help pay for it.
