Four arches on Town Square in Jackson, Wyoming, are built entirely from elk antlers and held together mostly by friction and gravity. Local Boy Scout troops gather the antlers on the National Elk Refuge, where about 5,000 elk winter in an average year, usually in view from December to April. Each May antlers are auctioned at ElkFest, and part of the money goes back to the refuge. Grand Teton National Park is less than five miles from town, and the range rises more than 7,000 feet above the valley to 13,770 feet on the Grand Teton. The Jackson Hole Aerial Tram climbs 4,139 vertical feet to Corbet's Cabin, which makes waffles at 10,450 feet.
