The nation's oldest seaside resort wears its age beautifully, with a row of gingerbread Victorian mansions standing watch over the sand along Beach Avenue. Spend the morning hunting Cape May diamonds at Sunset Beach, where the ribs of a sunken concrete ship break the surf, then walk the promenade to the lighthouse at the peninsula's southern tip. By evening the whole town turns toward the water for a sunset that earned this stretch of the Jersey shore its name.
