About

About two miles of white sand run between the Hanalei and Waipa rivers at Hanalei Bay on Kauai's north shore, with the 1892 pier at the end of Weke Road. Swim in summer over the shallow sandbars in the middle of the bay, and leave November through February, the north shore's big-wave season, to experienced surfers. Watch for rip currents; the lifeguards at Hanalei Pavilion aren't always on duty. The road in crosses the one-lane Hanalei Bridge, one direction at a time.
