WMNF 88.5 FM's annual festival sounds like the listener-supported station: independent artists, a heavy share of them from Tampa Bay, on a lineup where a blues set and a cumbia band can land inside the same hour. Tropical Heatwave runs one Saturday night each spring at the Cuban Club in Ybor City, with bands on stages across the old social club. Music moves between the open-air patio and two indoor rooms, the ground-floor Cantina and the upstairs ballroom. The air-conditioned theater is open when you need a break. The box office opens at 4:30 pm and the gates at 5 pm, with music from 6 pm to midnight. Advance general admission has recently run around $50. Food trucks and bars are on site.
