The skyline stands right behind the stages at Meridian Fields, an 11.5-acre lawn between Water Street, the Channel District and Ybor City, where Gasparilla Music Festival sets up for three days each spring. The nonprofit Gasparilla Music Foundation books more than fifty acts across genres and stocks the food stalls with Tampa restaurants instead of standard festival concessions. The site is cashless. The TECO streetcar is free, and city and Water Street garages are within walking distance. Gates open mid-afternoon Friday through Sunday, rain or shine with no refunds, and music runs late into the evening. Children 12 and under get in free, and a midday Kids Fest on Saturday and Sunday brings face painting and an instrument petting zoo. Alcohol is served, though, and later sets can run explicit. A low chair and a small blanket are fine, but umbrellas are not. Coolers and outside food stay out, though a sealed liter of water gets through the gate.
