Wide pans of paella cook over open flame on the Sponge Docks each November, and the other booths sell stone crab claws and grouper baskets. For the Tarpon Springs Seafood Festival, vendors run the length of Dodecanese Boulevard and out onto the field at Hill Street, with artisans selling nautical art and fishing apparel in the gaps between food booths. A chef competition crowns Tampa Bay's best seafood dish, and local bands play across the weekend. Park free at Splash Park or Tarpon Towers and take the shuttle in, which saves you hunting for a space near the water. Gates open at 10 a.m. and admission is free. Saturday runs until 9 p.m.; Sunday closes in the late afternoon. Kids get face painting and a jump zone with bouncy castles. Leashed, well-behaved dogs are welcome.
