Squeeze bottles line the folding tables under the tents at Pinellas Pepper Fest, set out for sampling. Vendors at England Brothers Park sell hot sauce and salsa, rubs, spicy snacks, pepper plants, kitchen gear and crafts. On Saturday the League of Fire sanctions a professional pepper eating match at the bandshell stage, where competitors eat their way through jalapenos and serranos. A spicy lollipop challenge pulls volunteers up for a slower kind of suffering. Live music plays from the park's permanent bandshell both afternoons. The festival runs Saturday and Sunday, 10am to 5pm, at England Brothers Park, 5010 Dave McKay Way in Pinellas Park. Organizer SIK Promotions lists ample free visitor parking on site. The park is pet friendly and ringed by a paved walking path, so there's shade and room to walk off a bad decision between tastings.
