Pinellas Pepper Fest fills England Brothers Park with hot sauce, salsa and pepper vendors, then moves the burn onto the bandshell stage. Sampling is most of the appeal, with squeeze bottles lined up along folding tables under the tents and vendors selling rubs, salsas, spicy snacks, pepper plants, kitchen gear and crafts. The League of Fire sanctions a professional pepper eating match on Saturday, where competitors work through jalapenos and serranos in front of the stage, and a spicy lollipop challenge pulls volunteers up for a slower kind of suffering. Live music carries both afternoons from the park's permanent bandshell. Know before you go: the festival runs Saturday and Sunday, 10am to 5pm, at England Brothers Park, 5010 Dave McKay Way in Pinellas Park. Organizer SIK Promotions lists ample free visitor parking on site. The park is pet friendly and ringed by a paved walking path, so there is shade and room to walk off a bad decision between tastings.
