Tampa Riverfest fills the length of the Riverwalk on the first weekend in May with a free two-day run of concerts, food and a hot air balloon glow at sunset. Friends of the Riverwalk spreads the festival across several downtown parks, with the main stage for regional and local bands in Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park. Friday night brings Taste of Riverwalk, Saturday brings Taco Fest, and across both days there is a wiener dog derby, riverside yoga, a water ski show, a paddle invasion and a lantern parade that walks a mile from Water Works Park down to Curtis Hixon after dark. Know before you go: admission is free and no ticket is needed. The balloon glow happens at sunset on both nights. For the lantern parade, decorate your own or buy a kit on site. Park in a downtown garage within a few blocks and check the city map at tampa.gov/parking, or ride the free TECO Line Streetcar in from Ybor City and the Channel District. Bring a chair or blanket for the lawn.
