Friends of the Riverwalk spreads Tampa Riverfest along the length of the Riverwalk and across several downtown parks on the first weekend in May, and both days are free. Regional and local bands play the main stage in Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park. Friday night is Taste of Riverwalk and Saturday is Taco Fest, and across both days there's a wiener dog derby, riverside yoga, a water ski show and a paddle invasion. A hot air balloon glow goes up at sunset each night. After dark a lantern parade walks a mile from Water Works Park down to Curtis Hixon; decorate your own lantern or buy a kit on site. No ticket is needed. Park in a downtown garage within a few blocks (the city's map is at tampa.gov/parking), or ride the free TECO Line Streetcar in from Ybor City and the Channel District. Bring a chair or blanket for the lawn.
