R.O.C. the Block began as a pop-up during Super Bowl weekend in 2021, staged by Bolaji Ajike so small Black-owned businesses could vend near Raymond James Stadium instead of being priced out of it. The Juneteenth festival now sets up on the Bucs' field itself, a free block party of DJs, dancers, food trucks and vendors. The acronym stands for Reconditioning Our Communities, and the program keeps that in view: an opening libation ceremony, remarks from local historians and county commissioners, community workouts, dance sets, and local and touring musicians playing into the night. The grounds hold a KidZone, an Art District, community resource booths and long rows of retail and food vendors. It falls on the Saturday of Juneteenth week and usually runs from mid-afternoon to about 9:30 p.m. The organizer sells ticketed companion events separately; those have included a Cultural Couture Ball and a TopGolf outing.
