Each June the Tampa International Fringe Festival fills four small rooms in Ybor City with about 30 uncurated shows, most of them 30 to 60 minutes long. Companies get in by lottery rather than by jury, and the whole base ticket price goes back to the artists, so a single evening can swing from earnest solo storytelling to stand-up, dance, puppetry and late night cabaret. Three of the venues sit inside Kress Contemporary on East 7th Avenue, the fourth is at The Commodore up the same street, and a festival shuttle runs between them. Know before you go: single tickets run roughly $9 to $15 plus a $3 service fee, buying three or more shows earns a discount, and paying cash knocks a dollar off the fee. Your first ticket comes with the button you have to wear for entry. Weeknight shows start around 7pm, weekend days begin around noon, and Saturday is the long one, with the last shows starting after 10pm. Ratings range from all ages to 18 and over, Kids Fringe programming lands on the weekends, and every venue is ADA compliant.
