Cuban, Italian, Spanish, Jewish and German families settled Ybor City in the late 1800s as the cigar factories thrived, and for more than seventy years the Ybor City Chamber of Commerce and the City of Tampa have co-hosted a free street festival honoring the immigrants who built the neighborhood. On Fiesta Day, food stalls selling ethnic cuisine stretch the length of 7th Avenue, and artists and makers set up craft booths along the brick sidewalks. Performances run on the 7th Avenue Stage, and the music carries under the wrought-iron balconies that give the district its look. It usually runs from about 11am to 5pm along 7th Avenue in the historic district, outdoors on open pavement. Organizers bill it as family-friendly. Plan on February sun, and wear comfortable shoes.
