The Tampa Bay Wine & Food Festival works both sides of the bay over four days in April. It starts inside restaurants in Tampa and St. Petersburg with dinners and tastings, and one night goes to Seminole Hard Rock. On Friday it moves outdoors to Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park for the Chef Showdown, where chefs cook against each other and guests taste the plates and vote. Saturday's Grand Tasting on the same lawn is the wide-open one, with dozens of area restaurants plating and pouring next to wine and cocktail tastings. A demo kitchen stage runs through the afternoon. Tickets are all-inclusive, covering food and drink, and the money raised pays for EAT SMART, a nutrition program for local middle schoolers. Weekday events are 21 and up and need a valid government ID. The Grand Tasting is open to all ages and free for children under 10. Friday and Saturday are outdoors, rain or shine, so dress for sun. Chairs and strollers are fine on the Saturday lawn. A beach bag can come in as long as it holds no outside food or drink. Pets aren't allowed.
