Tampa Bay Barbecue Festival
701 Bayshore Dr. NE, St. Petersburg, FL 33701
About this happenin
Competition pitmasters line the seawall at Vinoy Park for two days of brisket, ribs, pulled pork and chicken, and every team sells a sampler platter of all four. A panel of trained judges scores blind entries on Saturday in those categories, and the winners are announced Sunday afternoon on the main stage between sets. Attendees run a parallel vote by scanning the QR code at each booth, and the tally decides the People's Choice winner. Around the food are live bands, muralists painting in real time, cornhole and giant Jenga, and part of the proceeds goes to Friends of the Pier. Know before you go: the festival has run 1 to 9 p.m. both days, with the box office opening at 12:30 p.m. at Bayshore Drive and 5th Avenue. Chairs, blankets and sealed water are allowed, coolers and outside drinks are not. Leashed dogs are welcome, children 13 and under enter free, and re-entry is limited to VIP tickets. Parking near the park is thin, and organizers point to the SouthCore Garage at 101 1st Avenue South.
