PhilFest fills Tampa's Philippine Cultural Enrichment Complex with three days of Filipino food, folk dance and live music, drawing close to 20,000 people. The Philippine Cultural Foundation has run it since the 1990s, and the shape rarely changes: bunting strung across the courtyard, vendor booths selling Filipino dishes and Philippine merchandise, and a covered stage that keeps going from open to close. Regular fixtures include Tanghalang Pambata, the children's talent showdown, the Tawag ng Tanghalan adult singing contest, a youth hip hop battle, a pageant, and Yugyugan street dancing that pulls the crowd off the benches. Member associations parade their banners in traditional dress. Know before you go: Friday runs from 5pm to 11pm, Saturday from 10am to 11pm, and Sunday from 10am to 6pm. There is a gate admission, cheaper if you buy in advance, and children six and under plus Filipino and U.S. veterans enter free with ID. Parking is a flat cash fee, on site and in nearby school lots, so bring bills.
