The same hillside off State Road 52 in Dade City has held the Pasco County Fair every February since 1948, and the fair still runs on 4-H time. Steer and hog shows go on in the Barthle Livestock Pavilion, and young exhibitors sell their animals at the youth auctions. The home arts and art show halls stay busy while the midway spins outside. The sanctioned rodeo and the demolition derby pull the biggest crowds, and the gate covers bluegrass and gospel sets along with the specialty acts and pageants. Parking is free, but leave coolers and pets at home. Gate admission has recently run about $12 for adults and $7 for ages six to twelve, with kids five and under in free. Ride wristbands and rodeo seats are usually ticketed on top of the gate, and wristbands sell at a discount online ahead of time. It's 30-odd acres of slope, so wear real shoes. In past years, gates opened mid to late afternoon on weekdays and around 10am on Saturday, and Sunday wound down in the early evening.
