The Pasco County Fair has taken over the same hillside off State Road 52 in Dade City every February since 1948, and it still runs on 4-H time. Steer and hog shows fill the Barthle Livestock Pavilion, young exhibitors sell their animals at the youth auctions, and the home arts and art show halls stay busy while the midway spins outside. A sanctioned rodeo and the demolition derby pull the biggest crowds, and bluegrass and gospel sets, specialty acts and the pageants come free with the gate. Know before you go: parking is free, and gate admission has recently run about $12 for adults, $7 for ages six to twelve, free for ages five and under, with discounted ride wristbands sold online ahead of time and gate admission charged on top. Ride wristbands and rodeo seats have typically been ticketed separately. In past years, weekday gates opened mid to late afternoon, Saturday opened around 10am, and Sunday wound down in the early evening. It is 30-odd acres of slope, so wear real shoes. Leave coolers and pets at home.
