The week before the adult parade, Tampa kids get their own pirate day on Bayshore Boulevard. The costumed parade of Ashley Children's Gasparilla starts at Bay to Bay and Bayshore and runs about a mile and a half north to Edison Avenue. Stunt planes fly air shows over the bay, then hand off to the Piratechnic fireworks finale once the light goes. Children under six ride the Preschooler's Stroll in decorated wagons and strollers, which requires pre-registration, and a bicycle and pedestrian safety rodeo sets up between Rome and Dakota avenues. It's strictly alcohol-free, and coolers and tents are not permitted along the route. Chairs, blankets, strollers and small soft-sided bags for childcare or medical needs are all fine, and you'll want a seat, since the day runs from midday into the evening. Watching costs nothing, though reserved seating sells separately through Gasparilla Treasures. A limited number of free accessible spaces sit at Howard and Palm Drive for permit holders, and the city's special event office has the road closures.
