Each spring the Madeira Beach Recreation Complex turns into a three-day waterfront festival built around one of Florida's richest king mackerel tournaments, run by the Old Salt Fishing Foundation for more than thirty years. The fishing is only half of it. Live bands play all three nights, local food and drink vendors set up alongside boat dealers and tackle sellers, and fireworks go up over the water one evening. Children get their own competition in the Kids Fishing Slam, with its own awards. Know before you go: the Thursday captains meeting and team check-in open the festival, with gates at 5pm. Friday evening belongs to the Kids Fishing Slam. Saturday is the reason to stay late, when the weigh-in opens in the afternoon and the King is crowned before the night is out. Everything happens at 200 Rex Place in Madeira Beach.
