About this happenin
Its organizers call Necronomicon Central Florida's longest-standing fan-run convention, more than four decades in, and the volunteer roots show in the programming. Science fiction and fantasy share the bill with horror over a September weekend at the Embassy Suites near USF in Tampa. There are writer panels and a writers' symposium, an art show, a dealers room, tabletop gaming with board game championships, LARP sessions, a T-shirt competition, a silent auction and a late-night After Dark track. Costumes are common. Props have to stay sheathed and designs are held to county decency standards, so the daytime floor stays workable for families. A weekend badge is $75 at the door and cheaper the earlier in the year you buy. Single days are $35 for Friday or Saturday and $25 for Sunday. Registration runs 10am to 9pm Friday and Saturday and 10am to 2pm Sunday. The hotel's parking system uses a QR code and a validation code, and registration staff can supply them.
