Chefs from Tampa, Miami and as far away as Tokyo bring their presses to Ybor City each spring to compete for the title of World's Best Cuban Sandwich. The Hispanic Cultural Resource Foundation has run the contest for more than a decade, spreading it across Centennial Park and three closed city streets: contestant tents pressing to order, food and art vendors, live music and dancing. Attendees vote in the popular category while a celebrity panel picks the judged winner. The same organizers are behind Florida's record-length Cuban sandwich builds, including a 360-foot version later donated to a homeless shelter. Know before you go: general admission is free, and the festival runs from midday into early evening. Sandwiches and samples are purchased directly from each vendor. VIP tickets, sold separately, cover contestant samples, drinks, seating, a private restroom and a private stage in the Ybor City Museum Garden. Leashed dogs are welcome. The TECO streetcar's Centennial Park stop sits at the park's edge.
