Tampa and Miami chefs bring their presses to Ybor City each spring to compete for the title of World's Best Cuban Sandwich, and some come from as far away as Tokyo. Contestant tents press sandwiches to order across Centennial Park and three closed city streets, set among the food and art vendors, and there's live music and dancing. Attendees vote in the popular category while a celebrity panel picks the judged winner. The organizer, the Hispanic Cultural Resource Foundation, is also behind Florida's record-length Cuban sandwich builds, including a 360-foot version later donated to a homeless shelter. You buy sandwiches and samples directly from each vendor; general admission costs nothing. The festival runs from midday into early evening, and the TECO streetcar's Centennial Park stop is at the park's edge. VIP tickets are sold separately and cover contestant samples, drinks, seating, a private restroom and a private stage in the Ybor City Museum Garden. Leashed dogs are welcome.
