St. Petersburg celebrates Arbor Day by filling Walter Fuller Park with more than 120 plant and garden vendors for one free spring weekend. Inside the recreation center the Garden Club of St. Petersburg mounts a juried flower show, with awards given Sunday at 3 p.m. City arborists take questions at an Ask an Arborist tent, and staff run soil and water tests and diagnose ailing plants. Kids get crafts and Pathfinder tree climbing. Plant and pine seedlings are given away free, and there are food trucks and a tool sharpener too. Two vehicle plant pickup areas mean heavy buys don't have to be hauled across the park, and garden wagons rent for $5 with a driver's license. Park at Azalea Middle School or the Azalea Youth Soccer League lot, or behind Walter Fuller Recreation Center, and ride the free shuttle in. Accessible parking is at the recreation center's main lot and the pool lot. Both days run 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine unless the weather turns severe.
