Candle luminaries line the sidewalks of Dade City's Church Avenue for three December evenings, when the residents close their street to cars and sing. Choirs, carolers, dancers and bell ringers perform from front porches and lawns along the seven blocks between 10th and 17th Streets. The three churches that give the avenue its name open their doors, with more music inside and a live nativity. One house runs a light display choreographed to carols. Another puts Santa on the porch. Church Avenue is closed to traffic from 7 to 9 pm on December 21 through 23, and admission is free. Public parking is at the three churches along the route: First Baptist at 37511 Church Avenue, First Presbyterian at 37412, First United Methodist at 37628. The luminaries read best on foot, so park once and walk the whole stretch. Nothing is for sale, and nobody is collecting at the door.
