The chip-timed competitive 5K goes off at 7 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning and the FrankCrum Family Fun Run 5K at 8, with Abe's Place 1-Mile Drum Run just after 9. Thousands of runners and walkers turn out for the Achieva Clearwater Turkey Trot, costumed families among them, in a Clearwater tradition dating to 1980. All three start on Keene Road just south of Gulf to Bay Boulevard and finish on the Clearwater High School football field, with live music and a costume contest around the finish. Registration is tiered and climbs as race week nears. Expect about $35 to $45 for a 5K and less for the mile, with a shirt and finisher medal included. Strollers and leashed dogs are welcome at the back of the corral for the Fun Run and Drum Run, though not for the timed 5K. Not allowed: bikes, wagons, skates. Road closures ring the course, so arrive about an hour early and use the sidewalks approaching the school. Packet pickup is the evening before at BayCare Ballpark.
